Bowie Knives by Neilson's Mountain Hollow

This is an array of Bowie knives I've really enjoyed making. I always said, when I started out in knife making, that I wouldn't just make endless bowie knives (there seemed to be so many out there already). I've learned that there are such an endless variety only your imagination need be set loose and you can have as many different bowie styles as you'd like or ever imagine. It might sound artsy but, I've found that the bowie knife is a great canvas to work upon. I love these knives as much as I do daggers.

"Dark Seax Bowie" in W2 & Stag
This cross between a Norse Seax and Bowie was a blast to build and a joy to swing. The chopper has a blade just over 10" forged from W2 high carbon steel that has been clay quenched to give it a "cloudy" hamon. The flats of this blade are also forge marked and acid soaked for that dark, rough look. The fullered, oval guard is forged from a piece of "W" pattern damascus steel. The handle is an A-grade crown of Sambar Stag with a hammered and etched set pin and a three piece throat spacer of worked/etched carbon steel. The overall length of this piece is 16 1/2" and it comes with a blade sheath with belt loop, retention strap and Norse/Celtic-style knot work tooling.
