Tomahawks/Axes

Here are an example of some tomahawks/axes I've been making. These make a nice break from
knifemaking on occasion. They are also very handy to have with you when your out
and about. I really enjoy them. I hope you like 'em, too.

Integral Pack-axe II

This Pac-axe was forged from a 5"x 4"x 3/8" piece of 5160 spring steel. This hatchet is 13 1/2" from top to bottom, is
4 1/2" from edge to back and has a 2 3/8" cutting edge (roughly 1/4" thickness overall). The hatchet is done in
my acid soaked/forged finish with an exposed pommel/lanyard hole and satin finished edges. The handle
scales are Cocobola wood secured with stainless steel handle bolts. This piece comes with a border-
tooled leather "head" sheath with back flap and post.

"Shorty II" Tomahawk

This hawk is a bit smaller than my average tomahawks and very light, a variation of the "Shorty 'Hawk" below. This
hawk has a head forged from 5160 high carbon steel with a satin finish. The head is 8 7/8" from end-to-end with
a 1 1/2" cutting edge. The 16 1/2" shaft is top grade Curly Maple with stabilized Buffalo horn caps &
antiqued brass tacks. The fully tooled "head" sheath has a retention strap with post.
Price for a similar piece, with leather sheath: $500.00

 

Integral Pack-axe

This small, light Pack-axe is forged from 5160 steel down to a 1/4" thickness with a tapered edge, integral handle and
an etched/forged finish. The handle scales are Lace wood secured with stainless steel handle bolts. The head is
roughly 3" from edge to back with a 1 3/4" cutting edge. The overall length of this piece is 8 1/4". This
Pack-axe can be supplied with a leather or Kydex sheath, whatever your preference.

"Firestorm" Spike Tomahawk

This Spike Hawk is forged from high carbon steel forged in a "firestorm" pattern with a head that's 9" from edge
to spike tip. The eye of the hawk is tooled/carved. The shaft is A-grade Curly Maple wood and 17 1/2"
overall with caps of brushed finish 4140 carbon steel with black spacers and nickle tacks.
Price for a similar piece: $975.00, plus sheath.

 

Rasp-Stag Tomahawk Set

This tomahawk is forged from a farrier's rasp and has a head that is approx. 5" from the shaft with a 1 3/4" edge.
 The tapered edge has a rough mirror polish and the forge marks/teeth on the rest. The head also has a forged
 loop on the back with deer skin/tip decorations attached. The shaft is a beautiful piece of Curly Maple wood
 that is 21" from tip to tip with staggered brass tacks, stag caps on both ends (crown and web) and stabilized
 Buffalo horn spacers. The side knife is also forged from a farrier's rasp (same finish as the hawk) with a
4" edge (9 1/2" total length) and a scrolled/twisted "squirrel tail" handle. The whole set sits in a
leather "canoe" sheath with brass hardware with a removable post sheath for the side knife.

Twist Damascus "Shorty" Hawk

This hawk is a bit smaller than my average tomahawks and very light. This hawk has a head forged
from 200 layers of "twist" pattern damascus steel. The head is 8 7/8" from end-to-end with a 1 1/2"
cutting edge. The 16 1/2" shaft is top grade Curly Maple with stabilized Honey Buffalo horn caps,
black spacers, nickle-silver tacks and Turk's Head knots. The fully tooled Canoe sheath has a
two-tone Flourish carving and adjustable shoulder strap.

Moon & Stars Double 'Hawk

This tomahawk (forged from two farrier's rasps) has a double head measuring 11 1/4" across with
the rough teeth still on the eye. The blade has "Moon & Star" cut-outs and light etch too bring
 out the steel pattern. The shaft is Curly Maple with burned star/random designs and a deerskin
 wrap and copper anchors. This 'hawk also comes with a fringed leather "bikini" sheath.

Wolf's Paw Poll Hawk

 This is a variation of the standard "Poll" Hawk. The 8" head of 5160 high carbon steel is edge quenched on
either end and then acid etched. This one has a 19" shaft of A-grade Curly Maple wood with a black
Pig skin handle wrap and nickle/steel  pins and studs. The top/bottom caps of the shaft are stabilized/
green dyed Maple Burl wood with black spacers. The piece is finished off with a top, "Turks Head"
knot and of course, the pierced "paw" in the blade. The 'hawk comes with a belt sheath or
shoulder-strap "canoe" sheath.
